The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)’s Master of Business Administration (Online & Distance MBA) programme is intended to give students a thorough understanding of the many facets of business management. Credit Weightage of the IGNOU MBA Courses

To complete the IGNOU MBA program, students must complete a total of 28 courses, which include:


20 Core Subjects:
Mandatory to all MBA students, regardless of their specialization.

7 Specialization:
Selected from the student’s chosen area of specialization.

1 Project Course:
Equivalent to two regular courses in terms of credits.


Special Note on Specialization Programs –
For students enrolled in IGNOU’s specialization-based MBA programs (e.g., MBAFM, MBAMM, MBAOM, MBAHM). They must complete 19 core courses instead of 20. Further, they are required to complete 8 specialization courses rather than 7.


Core Courses –
Every MBA student must pass the 20 core courses, which are coded as MMPC-001 to MMPC-020, to meet the requirements of the program.


Specialization Courses –
Students can choose their specialization from areas such as:

  • Human Resource Management (MBAHM)
  • Financial Management (MBAFM)
  • Marketing Management (MBAMM)

In specialization-based MBA programs, students complete 8 courses from their chosen field instead of 7. Specialization courses are selected in the third and fourth semesters. There are 4 courses in third semester and 3 courses in fourth semester.

Project Course – The project course, coded as MMPP-001, carries the weightage of two courses. It is introduced in the third semester and is considered a crucial part of the program.

Minimum Passing marks In IGNOU MBA Programme

To pass a course in the IGNOU MBA program, students need to meet the following requirements: Score at least a ‘C’ grade in both the continuous assessment and the term-end examination for that course. Maintain an overall average grade of at least ‘C’ for the course to be considered successfully completed.
Grading System and Percentage Conversion – Here’s how letter grades correspond to percentage scores:
A = 80% and above
B = 60% to 79.9%
C = 50% to 59.9%
D = 40% to 49.9%
E = Below 40% (fail)
Make sure to aim for at least a ‘C’ grade to qualify in each course and progress through the program successfully.
