Now Top Foreign universities can set up their campuses in India to offer online courses and they are free to decide on admission policy and fee criteria. There are some conditions that need to be full fill like it should be among the top 500 global ranking universities or it should be a “reputed institution in its home jurisdiction”

New Delhi: If you are dreaming to study in foreign universities so now your dream will be full fill soon because they will be allowed to set up their campuses across the country. Draft guidelines were to be effected on Thursday as “internationalisation” of higher education was one of the major policy initiatives under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

These are the very important steps by University Grants Commission (UGC) that will boost the Indian economy in the education sector. The guidelines of the draft policy titled (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations, 2023, were released by UGC allowing them to set the rules and policy for deciding their own admission process and fee structure. There is flexibility to take admission to these universities for both Indian and International students.

WHAT ARE THE REGULATIONS?

According to the regulations, foreign higher educational institutions (FHEI) want to open a campus in India and there should be among the top 500 global ranking universities or it should be a reputed institution in its own country.

The regulatory body FHEIs in India conduct undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, post-doctoral, and other programs as well as award degrees, diplomas and certificates in all disciplines.

Online and distance learning courses do not allow at these institutions. They will not be able to offer programs in open and distance learning mode, the draft said. Here is the link for the draft policy.
