The UGC has called all vice chancellors, directors and principals of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to nominate 3 students from their institutions to be considered as NEP SAARTHIs.
New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a new initiative called ‘NEP SAARTHI – Student Ambassador for Academic Reforms in Transforming Higher Education in India.’ This initiative aims to actively involve students in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Under NEP SAARTHI, the UGC is encouraging vice chancellors, directors, and principals of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to nominate three students from their respective institutions as NEP SAARTHIs.
These students will be selected based on their exceptional qualities, including outstanding personality, excellent communication skills, organizational capabilities, creativity, sense of responsibility, and leadership abilities.
The UGC plans to choose 300 NEP SAARTHIs from the nominations received. The selected students will undergo orientation and guidance on effectively carrying out their roles in a hybrid mode. They will serve as ambassadors for NEP 2020, promoting awareness about the policy, disseminating information, collecting feedback from students to enhance the policy, providing guidance to students and stakeholders, and participating in relevant online events organized by the UGC.
NEP SAARTHIs will receive a certificate of recognition and will be featured on the UGC’s official social media platforms. They will also have the opportunity to publish an article in the UGC newsletter.
Their responsibilities will include organising awareness campaigns, engaging with student groups, facilitating dialogue among students, faculty members, and administrators, creating brief notes on each NEP initiative for display on campus, planning events and activities such as debates, discussions, competitions, and setting up NEP help desks at college festivals.
Nominations for NEP SAARTHIs are open until June, and the selected students will be announced in July during the orientation program.
