New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced a game-changing checklist for all higher education institutions, encompassing colleges and universities. In compliance with this checklist, these institutions are now mandated to furnish essential information about their academic programs on their official websites.
UGC has directed higher education institutions to ensure that their websites contain clear and detailed information concerning their admission procedures, fees, refund policies, facilities, development plans, collaborations, and various other critical aspects.
M. Jagadesh Kumar, the UGC Chief, expressed concerns that numerous universities were falling short in providing even the most fundamental information about their institutions. He emphasized that outdated and non-functional websites were causing significant inconveniences and uncertainties for stakeholders.
In light of this, especially as the nation commemorates the third year of the National Education Policy 2020, the UGC is urging universities to make available essential information and keep their website content up-to-date. To facilitate this, the UGC has devised a checklist outlining the requisite information that universities must provide on their websites.
According to the official notice, higher education institutions must ensure that their websites include detailed information regarding admissions, fees, prospectus availability, admission guidelines for international students (where applicable), program-specific fee structures, and refund policies.
In addition to these particulars, institutions are also required to disclose academic program details, academic calendars, information about schools, departments, centers, faculty profiles including photographs, and library resources.
Furthermore, all higher education institutions are expected to furnish information on scholarships and fellowships, the ABC portal, student grievance redressal committees, anti-ragging measures, helpline numbers, alumni information, job opportunities, and other pertinent details.
For more comprehensive details, the official notice can be accessed on the UGC’s official website at ugc.gov.in.
